Goat on Table Mountain by Clotilde

Last Sunday I went hiking on Table Mountain for the first time although it was very hot! But I don’t regret it because when I had to go down a wonderful meeting waited for me on the way.

It was about 5p.m, far less people were on the way, the mountain’s shadow covered the area and taking advantage of all of this a wild goat was eating! Hidden by the vegetation it wasn’t afraid of us, and continued to eat as if we didn’t exist despite sometimes raising its head toward us.

I did some research on the internet and I found that this kind of goat is called “Tahr”. There are three species which come from Himalaya, South India and Oman countries and the first one has been introduced to South Africa when two Himalayan tahrs escaped from a zoo in Cape Town in 1936.

That’s why we have now a population of these goats on Table Mountain! It’s really incredible! by Clotilde
