TownShip experience by Emilie

I had the chance to participate in an amazing experience: I have been to a Township in Cape Town, to give some love and hapiness to children who are living in a condition totaly different than mine and yours.

When I arrived I saw one head of a child then 2...3...4...10...20..., all of them ran to us, jumped into our arms gave us hugs. It was crazy because at the begining I was shier than children but at the end it was like I knew them for a long time!! It's really difficult to explain my feelings, I think the video explains exactly what I felt and how it was!

P.S: Enjoy your life!!!

Township Football

by Katrin

Last week we went to the South Africa’s Township. Townships are big places where very poor people in self-made houses made from sheet or wood live. We went there to play with the children there and bring them food. When we got there, a lot of children between tree and ten years old ran to us, hugged and wanted to play with us. We had a lot of fun, the children painted our faces, we played football with them, one little boy enjoyed very much when I had him on my arm and a girl sat the whole time on my shoulder. It was an amazing afternoon. And I saw with how little you can do to make a child smile.

Feeding Homeless People by Nicole

A few weeks ago, a few friends and I wanted to give back to the homeless community here in Cape Town. We heard about a church close to school that helps feed the homeless on Wednesday evenings.

When we arrived, we were put to work immediately, filling take away containers with bread, baked-beans, soup and pasta. It felt like we filled 500+ containers with food, they just kept on coming and coming. After we had prepared all the containers and were waiting for the church service to end, I looked at all the boxes and thought that we had over prepared and there would be far too many boxes for the number of people I expected, boy was I wrong!!! As soon as the church service finished, hordes of people stood in line and we handed over a box of food, fruit and juice to each person. I never realized how many homeless people there are in Cape Town, and it was such a huge shock for me to see.

It felt really good helping feed people who generally have to dig in bins to feed themselves or beg on the street, but at the same time, I was really sad at how many people suffer on a daily basis. The smiles on the faces of the people really made me realise that this church does such a great job to help, even if it is only 1 night a week.

Swop Shoppers by Junki

We are swop shop shoppers who raise money for families living in South Africa. Our goal is to get high English skills thorough the Recycle swop shop project and have an enjoyable time in South Africa with awesome friends.

Last time, we managed a Halloween party. We prepared for two weeks, after that we accomplished organizing a great party. Because the party wasn’t only an enjoyable time with everybody but also raising a lot of money and cooperating with the swop shoppers to create the Halloween party. We were a great team who had a good friendship with each other and could accomplish the task ourselves. We were so happy to accomplish the task.
